Sheffield Wednesday’s first-choice goalkeeper Cameron Dawson has made an honest admission about his future at the club and his hopes of signing a new contract.
What’s he said?
The 24-year-old has emerged as the starting man between the sticks ahead of veteran Keiren Westwood in recent months, and it is believed that he is close to agreeing on a new deal with his contract up at the end of the season.
Dawson’s form since entering manager Garry Monk’s starting plans sparked interest from a host of rival clubs including Derby County and Blackburn Rovers, whilst SPFL duo Celtic and Rangers are supposedly keen too.
However, the Owls academy graduate, who has been out on loan four times, has revealed his hopes of signing a new contract at Hillsborough. He said:
“I hope so. I don’t really know where we are at at the minute, but hopefully it will be soon. I think it might be soon. I am hoping it will be very soon.”

Part of the rebuild
Dawson has started the last 11 league matches for Wednesday as well as their two FA Cup victories against Brighton and Queens Park Rangers, taking his total for the season to 18 appearances.
In that run, the shot-stopper has enjoyed eight clean sheets, so he may duly receive his reward in the near future in the form of a new contract.

The fact that he wants to remain in south Yorkshire is also a very encouraging sign.
In addition, it suggests that Monk sees Dawson as part of his long-term plans after hinting at a potential rebuild job in the summer. At 24, the local lad is surely going to contribute for the foreseeable future.
Plenty members of the current squad see their contracts expire in the summer, while the average age of the starting XI ranks as the second-oldest in the division, so the 40-year-old boss has plenty of work to do come the end of the season.
Someone’s got to own them: Who do these incredibly unwanted PL records belong to?
Dawson signing a contract extension will not only ease the burden, but it would also be a step in a new direction for the club.
And in other news, this Carlos Carvalhal signing has been told that he is free to leave the club this week…
