The transfer window may be closed, but that has not stopped speculation linking Crystal Palace star man Wilfried Zaha with a move away from Selhurst Park.
The 25-year-old has become one of the hottest proprieties in the Premier League and is now reportedly attracting interest outside of English football’s top flight.
The Breakdown
The South London Press reports AS Monaco are interested in bringing Zaha to the Stade Louis II in January with sporting director Michael Emenalo — who previously held the role of technical director at Chelsea — present at Crystal Palace’s 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town earlier this month.
£27m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Zaha was on the scoresheet that day, curling in a fantastic effort to give the Eagles all three points in another fantastic individual performance that would have impressed Emenalo if he was on a scouting mission.
And with Kylian Mbappe’s loan move to Paris Saint-Germain having now become a permanent, Monaco will certainly have the funds to present an acceptable offer to Crystal Palace for their talisman.
That being said, the Selhurst Park faithful should not be too worried about Emenalo’s appearance at the John Smith’s Stadium and Monaco’s apparent interest.
While it is a transfer Monaco can afford, it is one that is unlikely to be sanctioned given the club’s shift in transfer policy which now sees them largely target young French players with huge potential on the cheap.
Additionally, should Zaha decide his time at Crystal Palace is up, the forward will likely push for a move to one of the Premier League’s elite clubs with both Chelsea and Tottenham having shown their interest in the former Manchester United man in the past (via the Sun).
A move to Monaco would be a step up for the tricky winger, but one that has too many factors going against it.
