Last week’s Premier League meeting will have been music to the ears of Liverpool and their fans.
The current worldwide pandemic has thrown the rest of this season’s football schedule up in the air, and there had been suggestions that the season could be cancelled. However, it seems the English top flight is committed to completing the rest of this term, meaning that the Reds are still on course to be crowned champions.

When this season ends, eyes will be cast towards the next campaign, and the Anfield outfit will no doubt be looking to improve in the areas needed. One of those they are already said to be keeping an eye on is Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan N’Dicka, per Sky Sports, though Arsenal, Sevilla and both Milan clubs are also keen.
Here, Football FanCast take a look at three reasons why this is a signing Jurgen Klopp must make…
Dejan Lovren replacement
As it stands, the Reds currently have four centre-backs at their disposal, but there is a very real possibility that one of them may be on the move in the summer: Dejan Lovren. Having made just 14 appearances in the all competitions, Sky Sports note that his future at the club is uncertain.
That, therefore, would leave a spot open in the squad for £22.5m-valued N’Dicka – as per Transfermarkt – to take. He wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter, but at 20, it would give him time to develop and progress into a player who could one day challenge for a regular first-team spot.
Long-term Joe Gomez partner
As it stands, Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are Klopp’s first-choice centre-backs. This season, they have kept nine clean sheets in the 13 Premier League games in which they have started together at the heart of the defence. Gomez, at 22 years old, is the future of the side, but van Dijk is not. He is already 28, and there will come a time when he is no longer at his peak.
N’Dicka is only 20 years old, and has already shown signs of improvement – he has given away half as many fouls as last season on average in the Bundesliga, for example, whilst he has averaged more interceptions as well. It is also interesting to note that Frankfurt have conceded 1.53 goals in the top-tier matches he has started compared to 1.8 without him.
By the time the Netherlands international’s powers do begin to wane in, say, in three to five years time, he will be ready to make the step up and become a regular starter, whilst still having years ahead of him.
Left-back back-up
Andrew Robertson, of course, is Liverpool’s first-choice left-back, and rightly so – he is arguably the best in his position in the world at the moment. However, there are few options in the side behind him. James Milner has most often been selected in his absence, but he is a central midfielder by trade and is only a stopgap.
N’Dicka, though, has featured regularly in that position for the Bundesliga outfit. The vast majority of his games have come at centre-back, true, but, as per Transfermarkt, he has 15 appearances on the left as well, managing two assists along the way. That is the kind of versatility the European champions could put to good use.
