Tottenham are in sensational form as they continue to hunt down league leaders Liverpool, but they must add to their midfield in January by making a shock move for Aaron Ramsey.
What’s the story?
Plenty was made of Tottenham’s lack of summer signings, but Mauricio Pochettino has proven that his squad is more than capable of keeping pace with Liverpool.
However, if they want to do more than just “keep pace” and actually challenge for trophies, the Lilywhites need to invest in their midfield, and a bargain move for Ramsey could be just the ticket.
CheekySport’s Joel claims Spurs badly need to invest in January after not having “the balls” to beat Arsenal. Check out his uncensored opinion in the video below…
The Welsh international is expected to leave Arsenal for free when his contract expires next summer, meaning the Gunners can put up very little resistance if a bid comes in this January.
Is he good enough?
Much like Jack Wilshere, the largest criticism of Ramsey has always been his injury problems, but the 28 year-old has been in great shape for over a season and a half now.
Despite his return to full fitness though, Unai Emery is clearly not a fan, starting him in just seven Premier League games so far this season. And yet, Ramsey is currently the fifth best playmaker in the league with six assists, just one less than Christian Eriksen.
That means the 58-cap ace is averaging an assist every 114 minutes, and he also has two goals to his name.
While Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks have formed a fantastic partnership at Wembley, Ramsey would bring something a little different to both of them, offering more creative output and late runs into the box to grab goals (Winks and Sissoko are yet to score this campaign).
Ramsey has scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final twice, has bags of experience, vision, versatility and work rate, and with the right guidance from Pochettino could easily prove Emery wrong.
